Wok In The Box

Sometimes happiness comes in a box *drools*

It was almost nearing lunch time. My stomach was rumbling and craving for good food. I stood by the window, staring blankly at everything outside. The sky looked bright yellow as if the sun was fighting with my eyes. I closed the window blinds a little so that the sunlight doesn’t give me a headache.

I went to my kitchen to check for lunch but couldn’t find anything interesting. Now my stomach had started to roar with hunger. So I decided to eat from ‘Wok In The Box’ at Carter Road, Bandra. It’s a fast food joint that serves up healthy and filling noodles, rice and salads.

The climate had lost its cool as if the sun was having a bad day. Slowly the breezy air turned humid and it was not the best time to get out, I must say. But then I was hungry and I craved something savory and spicy. I just wanted to get there in no time and chomp away to glory.

And there I was finally! If you’re a noodle fan, ‘Wok In The Box’ is your comfort-food zone. As you enter, you see a king sized menu on the extreme top left wall with instructions that guide you to create your own stir-fry noodles. On the center wall, you see fancy and quirky one-liners keeping Wok in mind. Some of them really put a smile on your face.

ImageSo you’re ready for Mission: Noodles? Just kidding! It’s an easy task. First, they hand you a bowl and ask you to choose your own veggies and hand it over to the chef, who prepares it with your choice of sauces on a live stir-fry counter right before your eyes. You can pick from an array of sauces, like Wok fiery, Sweet chili, Schezwan, Hunan, and more. Lastly, you also have a choice to pick the noodle type, i.e. flat noodles, wheat noodles, or the plain ones or rice. But I chose the plain noodles with Wok fiery and Sweet chili sauces. While the chef’s at your masterpiece, you also get to taste your creation in case if it needs more sauce or salt. Mine tasted like a party in a box packed with succulent flavors. Right from the very first bite to the last, I kept slurping it.

What more can I say? ‘Wok In The Box’ made my day! Hunger pangs anyone? You know where to head to!

Woodside – All Day Bar & Eatery

WoodsideAlthough stuck in the midst of the hubbub, Woodside (All Day Eatery & Bar) shines out as the right place to unwind to and spend time with your loved ones on a weekend.

They have two sections; a decent bar with tall chairs and a fine dine restaurant on the inside, whereas the outside setting is rather more casual with dim lights and their walls have an adorable caricature of birds and trees. I was simply marveled!

You walk in to the restaurant and get escorted to the choice of your favorite seating? That’s something very rare at a place that is always busy and specially on the weekends. I must say, it was pure luck for me.

Once in a blue moon, we all crave that one great meal that puts on a big smile on our face after having the smallest of morsel and so did I.

I’m a wine enthusiast and so very selective too. So I called for a sparkling favorite. They serve you the most lip smacking munchies while you enjoy your drink and are very kind to repeat the bowl too. It’s one of the many reasons I keep going back to this place so much. 😉1653531_10153849127700144_2107081368_n

As for the food, we called for their ‘Grilled Harissa Chicken on skewers’. It’s a winning combination and my favorite dish till date. You can actually get the whiff of the robust flavors right till it arrives to your table. The chicken is delicately marinated in Harissa spices, flavored with aromatic herbs and is served with a side of butter toasted bruschettas. It’s an absolute turn on to enjoy awesome food along with good wine.

Got a sweet tooth? Well you sure do but this is the part where it can get you whining for a good portion of their dessert. The quantity is peewee compared to your expectations. Also, the taste isn’t premium or simply put as ‘awesome’ as you want it. In short their desserts didn’t quite impress me. 😐

So like, did you ever have the feeling to just move away from the mundane routine? Maybe revive yourself with good food, light music, ambiance and a great time? I got that feeling once and I visited Woodside and it’s been a wonderful experience so far. See you soon 🙂

Freeze The Moment!

Oreo cheese cake w. cookie sauceWhat’s keeping you cool this summer? For me, it is the de-li-cious frozen yogurts from Yogurtbay. No! Bay has nothing to do with it. Although, I’d like to think it’s an amalgamation of Yogurt + Bombay. Sounds good right, Mumbaikars? 😉

Do you crave for something sweet now and then? Well, you better ditch the sugary candies and switch to frozen yogurts this season. You will not regret it! It’s a yummy way to beat the scorching heat.

I’m madly in love with Yogurtbay! Whenever I’d pass by Bandra, I’d pick up 2 cups of those yummy delights. God was I thrilled to hear about their new branch at Versova! Thank you, thank you, and thank you! It’s fairly close to where I live. Last week, I went there and savored every bite of my favorite yogurt. 😀

What’s so good about a frozen yogurt? You get to choose your favorite flavor + a great variety of scrumptious toppings and syrups. Team them up all together and there your scoop of heaven is ready!

Cookie Sauce + Fruit popper are my all-time favorite toppings! You must try their all newly introduced flavors – Philadelphia Cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake, Summer Watermelon, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Lemonade, Pomegranate, and Boysenberry. I really hope to visit them soon.

Do stop by for some heavenly good frozen yogurts at Yogurtbay. Freeze the moment today 🙂Yogurtbay - Copy

Mai Madness!

Traders vic copyAloha!

I’m giving a really late review. But so what? Well, I went to ‘Trader Vic’s Mai Tai’ launch party earlier this December at Phoenix Mills in Lower Parel. You can find this awesome place right opposite the PVR Cinema Box office. Yes I know not a good location. But now it’s there so shhh!

If you’re looking for something to tickle your taste buds, an extraordinary fare awaits you. Mai Tai is a Tiki-culture inspired lounge offering an elaborate range of world famous delicacies, exotic concoctions and an exceptional modish décor. Palm trees, warm colors and awesome music will warm you up on the chilliest of evenings. It feels like you’re surrounded by a classy tropical setting. The staff is cordial, friendly and dedicated.  They make sure each guest is greeted and looked forward to in a special way.

Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge is unlike the other awesome hangouts in a busy Mumbai. The ambience is good for mini corporate lunches or a reunion gathering. What is really nice about the place is that they serve drinks in Trader Vic’s signature brand mugs and glassware.  They’re too cute to let go off when you’re done with sipping your drink. It’s a great place to hang out.

As for the food & drinks, we started with Maui Waui Shrimps, served with an aromatic dipping sauce. The shrimps were marinated in a sweet and tangy sauce and were cooked to perfection. The Mai Tai Crispy Chicken was delicious crispy and goes well with any drink. Oh you must definitely try out their Trader Vic’s burgers /sliders, I’m unsure about the exact name. They are totally delectable and satisfying and make a great accompaniment with the Tiki Puka Puka.

This is a must try if you’re at Mai Tai or any Tiki-culture lounge anywhere in the world. It’s a delicate fusion of three different types of rum, orange juice, grenadine & spices. The Mai Tai Mocktails are absolutely refreshing and served in a cute coconut-like mug. The other drink that I tried was Samoan Fog Gutter. It’s served in a tall vase, filled with rum, gin, brandy and sherry wine with orange juice orgeat. I quite liked the way the drinks are presented. It gives a very island-like feel. So set your mood for a rocking island party 🙂

After a heavy lunch, we were offered with Chocolate Nut Tikis as recommended by one of the stewards. Trust me, I delightfully loved the stickiness and really loved the fact that it was so light and yummy. It sure is a hit!

After a really busy day at work, Mai Tai is a really good place to hang out. So, let in some madness this season! Head to Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge for an invigorating experience.

Coffee conversations part I

, , ,

The best part about waking up is a cup of my favorite coffee.

Love cannot be defined in words but when it comes to ‘coffee’ I can whisk up a hearty conversation. In case you didn’t know ‘coffee’ happens to be the most consumed beverage in the world and I fell in love with it at 14.

If you’re a coffee genius, you’ll probably pass this post. It’s okay! I’m a coffee monster and this is my first blog.

There are around 100 different types of coffees in the world. But I shall stick to a few to begin with.
Affogato: For those who do not know what really an affogato is…Its an Italian word for “drowned”. It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso.

Café au lait: is often used in coffee shops. It’s a French coffee drink consisting strong or bold coffee mixed with scalded milk in approx. 1:1 ratio.

Café latte meaning ‘coffee’ and ‘milk’ is made with espresso and steamed cow’s milk or soy milk.

Cafe mocha: It is a variant of a café latte. It is typically 1/3rd espresso and 2/3rds of steamed milk, but a portion of chocolate is added, in the form of a chocolate syrup. Vending machines may use instant chocolate powder too. Mochas can contain dark or milk chocolate.

Café mélange: I haven’t tried this one. But I’ve heard its a black coffee mixed (“mélange”) or covered with whipped cream. If you have tried this one. Please share the details 😉

Cappuccino: This coffee-based drink is prepared using espresso, hot milk, and steamed milk foam. The reason why a Cappuccino is served in porcelain cup is because it has better heat retention than glass or paper. Now that sounds geeky ;P That foam that you see on the top of the cappuccino acts as insulator that helps retain the heat of the liquid, allowing your coffee to stay hotter longer. So the next time you order a Cappuccino and the foam’s missing, you can act like a genius 😉

Cinnamon Spice Mocha: Well this one’s a mocha mixed with cinnamon syrup, topped with milk foam and cinnamon powder. Not like my favorite but yeah sharing is caring. Talking about “knowledge” ;P

Decaf: It’s as simple as a bean. It’s made out of decaffeinated beans.

Frappuccino: Did you know? Frappuccino is the name and registered trademark of a Starbucks blended ice beverage and a bottled coffee beverage? It’s yum and there are flavors: Coffee, Espresso, Caramel, Mocha, Java Chip (My favorite :D), Peppermint Mocha, Green Tea, and many more.

Iced coffee: It’s also known as Cold coffee. Simple? 🙂

Indian filter coffee: also known as Madras Filter Coffee or Kapi is a sweet milky coffee made from dark roasted coffee beans and chicory, especially popular in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Instant coffee: The Instant coffee is doing a good business in the market too. It works best for people who are less active or are constantly working and have no time to grab their yum cappuccino, etc. Instant coffee is basically a coffee dehydrated into the form of powder or granules which can be rehydrated with hot water to provide a almost similar in taste to the natural coffee.

Irish coffee: You see the reason that it is called the ‘Irish’ coffee is because it consists of a blend of Irish whiskey, hot coffee, cream and sugar. The best part about this coffee is that you have to drink it through the cream. Yum, isn’t it? The next time you cannot decide whether to have whiskey or coffee, you drink up an Irish coffee 😉

Macchiato: This coffee is made out of espresso with a dash of milk. You can share your versions of Macchiato with me.

Wish you happy coffee dreams 🙂

Sammy Sosa

, , , , , ,

Sammy Sosa is more like a funky bar and a perfect chill-out for everyone at Oshiwara. They have a pretty decent decor with an au fait Mexican touch. They have an extensive menu with a lot of variety to choose from Veg as well as Non-veg. I ordered for a Non-veg meal, ‘Santa Fe Chicken’ and totally savored every bite of it. About 2-3 chicken breasts grilled and marinated on a bed of Mexican rice is a lip smacking mean and absolutely satisfying too.

Coming to the bar menu… Sammy Sosa does offer a huge collection of wines, cocktails, beers, and other mocktails. You’re sure to have a tough time deciding which one you should go for because all of them are so inviting and so amazingly described. 😀

It’s always good to go with a barfly with whom you can share and switch drinks with. Well, I went with two 😉 We ordered for few wine cocktails and some regular ones too. Alcohol can be a little heavy on the pocket but if you’re in a good mood, at a good place, and with the right people eating good food, you wouldn’t bother much.

My concerns: It would be great to have a variety in complimentary snacks too. Secondly, please have some board games or something to pass time for, till our meals arrive. Yes, the service is a bit slow, nevertheless, the stewards are very helpful and friendly.

Food: 10/10
Drinks: 9/10 (Depends from person to person)
Ambience: 10/10

I have had a real good time enjoying my favorite meal. If you’re in a mood for some Mexican madness, then don’t forget to experience it at ‘Sammy Sosa.’

24/7* Mad Over Donuts!

, , , ,

Love at first bite! Just like their motto suggests…

I have a sweet tooth and M.O.D is the most convenient & sweetest doughnut spot. However, since it’s Mad Over ‘Donuts’, I’ll stick to using that word. It’s ‘Hazel Dazzle’ that I fell in love with. I like my ‘doughnut’ (pun-intended) warm especially when it’s Hazel Dazzle. The chocolate filling of the donut simply creates a mustache-like on my face and I feel like a kid all over again 🙂

The amazing aroma and smell of chocolate gives me a sweet kick. I always begin to crave for donuts on random nights. So I always pick a box on the weekends.

Full on binge! 😉Image
